A Family Summer Abroad in Italy: 8-Weeks of Italian Bliss

Updated: Aug 23

At the beginning of 2023, I told my wife that I wanted us to live abroad the following summer (2024) and originally she was skeptical of this idea. Living out of suitcase for 8 weeks and working in a time zone 6 hours ahead would have it's challenges, so her concerns were understandable. Thankfully, after further discussion, working through the logistics and the schedule for the trip, we agreed we could do it and decided to start planning our summer abroad in Italy.

We were fortunate to have the ability to bring a nanny for the first seven weeks of our trip which helped alleviate the workload of caring for our kids and would allow us the ability to work full-time remotely from Italy.

One of the biggest takeaways from our trip was the ease that our children, Maxwell (age 6) and Alexander (age 4), were so adaptable to the change of not only flying so far to another country but also moving around quite a bit during the trip. They really enjoyed seeing new cities, resorts and private homes during the trip and to no one's surprise, they developed quite the palate for pizza and gelato. :)

This blog post is really just a prelude about our trip and I will follow it up with multiple blogs where I will dive deep into each region that we visited with more in depth feedback and information on hotels, cities and regions.

From a high level perspective, below is a summary of where we visited and what you can look forward to hearing about over the coming months.

**Disclaimer: we did not take our boys to Taormina, Sardinia or Castiglion del Bosco because it was too many logistics for a quick stay but they visited everywhere else listed below.
